PHOENIX — Nearly 80 percent of Phoenix residents said they enjoy the city’s weather during fall, ranking it as the best city in the nation for autumn, a recent survey found.
Seventy-seven percent of people living in Phoenix “thoroughly enjoy the weather” during fall, according to a recent YouGov survey.
While the Valley of the Sun doesn’t usually get less sunny during the fall season, the temperatures do drop significantly.
During the summer months — which occasionally leak into the fall months — temperatures can reach upwards of 110 degrees. But during the autumn season, Phoenix can average maximum temperatures between 86 and 92 degrees, with lows between 62 and 67 degrees.
This, paired with the Valley’s abundant retail, hospitality and restaurant markets and vicinity to places like the Grand Canyon and Route 66, has put Phoenix well above other major cities.
The survey found that Denver came in second place, with 76 percent of its residents saying they enjoy the fall weather. St. Paul, Minneapolis, and Atlanta, Georgia followed suit, with 73 percent and 72 percent, respectively.
But some of the most popular summer destinations are not top destinations during the fall. Los Angeles and Miami both came in among the worst cities for fall, with 54 percent of their residents saying they do not enjoy the city in autumn.
