The Arizona Department of Transportation announced Tuesday it will be lifting lane restrictions along State Route 87 for the upcoming Labor Day weekend.
Starting Tuesday night, crews will begin removing barriers on the left northbound lane between mileposts 223 and 226. The barriers on the left southbound lane are scheduled to be removed by Wednesday evening.
The decision to make repairs to stabilize the terrain and repair both roadway and drainage systems came after sensors detected minor ground movement near Slate Creek, about 25 miles south of Payson.
Nearly 27,000 cubic yards of dirt have been moved from the northbound side to help stabilize the terrain.
Crews will put the barriers back in place Sept. 6 and focus their repairs on the right lane in each direction.
