Mark Wahlberg tops Forbes’ annual list of highest-paid actors

PHOENIX — The latest “Transformers” movie may have bombed, but it propelled star Mark Wahlberg to the top of Forbes‘ annual list of the highest-paid actors.

The business magazine said the Boston-born star pulled in $68 million before taxes over the past 12 months.

Wahlberg unseated last year’s big earner Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who came in second this year after cashing about $65 million worth of checks.

The “Baywatch” and “Jumanji” star made his money from both films and a recurring roll on “Ballers,” an HBO show that follows the life of Spencer Strasmore — played by Johnson — a former football player working as a financial analyst for other players.

Apparently starring in movies about cars pays well. Wahlberg and Johnson were followed on the list by Vin Diesel, who reprised his roles in both the “XXX” and the popular “Fast and the Furious” series.

He earned $54.5 million.

The top five was rounded out by Adam Sandler — who earned $50.5 million — and Jackie Chan — who earned $49 million.

Newcomers on the list included some superhero earnings, such as “Avengers” stars Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner and “Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds.

Ryan Gosling, who played the lead role in critic-darling “La La Land,” also made the top 20 for the first time.

The top 20 actors on the list (which you can see below) earned a combined $720 million before taxes last year.

The top 10 accounted for $488.5 million of that figure.
