PHOENIX — Federal agents in southern Arizona chased and caught a truck heading to Mexico and confiscated more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana this week.
The drugs were worth more than $500,000.
U.S. Customs and Border Patrol said agents were patrolling a desert area about five miles east of Douglas on Sunday evening when they were told another agency had spotted a vehicle traveling north from the border.
When an agent tried to pull alongside the car to talk to the driver, he turned around and drove back to Mexico.
The driver and the passenger both ditched the vehicle after crossing back over the border and escaped on foot.
