PHOENIX — If you were planning on grabbing some tickets to the Fiesta Bowl as a holiday gift for someone, you should have done your shopping earlier.
The PlayStation Fiesta Bowl announced Wednesday that the upcoming New Year’s Eve game between No. 2 Clemson and No. 3 Ohio State has sold out. The game will be played at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, which has a capacity of 72,158.
“Year after year, the response from the Valley and the participating teams’ fans has been overwhelming, and this year is no different,” Fiesta Bowl Executive Director Mike Nealy said in a press release. “We are excited to welcome the Tigers and the Buckeyes and their extensive fan bases to Glendale and the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl.”
However, fans are not completely out of luck. Some tickets may be available on the game’s official ticket exchange website or a third-party site, though prices will likely be higher.
The game is expected to bring a lot of money into the West Valley.
“The last economic impact study that was conducted showed that it’s in the hundreds of millions of dollars,” said Kimberly Larson, a spokeswoman with the city of Glendale.
In fact, Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business said the economic impact on the state from last year’s championship game was more than $273 million.
