The thought of moving is exhausting. Packing up the house. Loading the truck. Driving the truck. Unpacking the truck. Unpacking the boxes in the new house.

Yet despite the hassle, Americans can’t seem to stop moving. In fact, according to the American Moving and Storage Association, nearly 36 million Americans move every year.

Arizona ranks eighth on the most active list in 2014 and there’s no sign of slowing down. Deciding when to move might be the key to success. For Arizonans, the best time to move might be, well, now.

Here’s why.

You’ll have time for the lazy days of summer

Didn’t get your spring-cleaning finished this year?

Moving is a great way to declutter and donate. Then you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy a baseball game in person or at home on a new flat screen TV with fiber-optic service. You can also lounge in the pool and watch your favorite shows using the Wireless Set-Top Box . Either way, there are plenty of options to relax and enjoy the dog days of summer.Revised_Century Link Moving (1)

You can get settled before school starts

Whether you’ve got kids in kindergarten or will be sending off the older ones to college, moving in May will help them get settled in (and maybe even make a few friends) before school starts in the fall. If you do find yourself with a houseful of kids, make sure to have parental control permission set for both TV and internet.

It’s not so ridiculously hot

Moving a sub-zero refrigerator any time of the year is rough. Moving it in July is just plain punishment. Phoenix temperatures will average in the 90s during the month of May. The Old Farmer’s Almanac claims this summer will be slightly rainier than normal with the hottest periods in mid-June through late July.

The market, however, is hot

If you’re looking for the perfect home, spring and summer might give you your best shot. According to the National Association of Realtors, 40 percent of home sales happen from April through July. Shopping around while inventory is high might give you a better shot at landing your dream home.

Moving specials might be easier to find

Spring and summer are notorious for finding moving deals. Shop around and do your due diligence for reviews and feedback from previous clients. If you’re hiring a moving company, make sure they provide a “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move” booklet from the United States Department of Transportation.

Storage companies and TV providers might also have move -in specials, such as, CenturyLink’s $100.00 prepaid card when bundling services together.

By moving in May, you’ll miss the heat, take care of some housekeeping and hopefully save some money along the way.

Feel free to take the remaining 11 months off.
