Watch: House committee resumes hearings on Jan. 6 riot at Capitol

The U.S. House Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack at the Capitol resumes public hearings Tuesday morning, after a nearly two-week break.

The session is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Arizona time.

It’s the seventh hearing in a series that began June 9. A prime-time hearing in the works for Thursday has been put on hold for now.

The panel investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, siege in Washington intends to probe whether far-right extremist groups coordinated the riot with White House allies.

Tuesday’s hearing is expected to probe what the committee calls the final phase of Trump’s multipronged effort to halt Joe Biden’s victory. As dozens of lawsuits and false claims of voter fraud fizzled, Trump tweeted the rally invitation, a pivotal moment, the committee said. The far-right Proud Boys, Oath Keepers and others now facing criminal charges readily answered.

One of the most recognizable figures from the Jan. 6 attack was a shirtless Arizona man, Jacob Chansley, who called himself the “QAnon Shaman.”

Chansley, among the first to force their way into the Senate chamber, wore face paint that resembled the U.S. flag and a furry Viking hat with horns; he also carried a spear into the building.

The last hearing, held June 28, came as a surprise announced the night before. The panel heard testimony from Cassidy Hutchinson, a top White House aide who described, on national television, how she grew disgusted by Trump’s refusal to stop the rioters

Previous witnesses have included Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers, who told the panel on June 21 of calls from Trump allies trying to pressure him to support decertifying the state’s election results.
