Disneyland, Disney World locations shut down over coronavirus

Add Disneyland Resort and various Disney World locations to the list of coronavirus closures.

The popular Southern California vacation destination announced Thursday it plans to shut down in response to guidelines in an executive order by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Earlier in the day, Newsom called for gatherings of at least 250 people to be rescheduled or canceled.

The resort said the decision was made even though there are no reported cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, at the Anaheim venue.

Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure will be closed as of Saturday morning.

The resort’s hotels will remain open until Monday to give guests time to make travel arrangements.

The closure will last at least through the end of March, the resort said.

Disney said it will continue to play resort employees, known as cast members, during the closure.

Later in the day, Disney World announced that it would be closing its theme parks in Florida and Paris, along with suspending all new cruise departures through month’s end.

However, the hotels at both the Florida and Paris locations will remain open until further notice.
