AZ Political Podcast: Stephen Richer on voter registration system error, his future

On this week's AZ Political Podcast, Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer discusses Arizona's voter registration system error and his future.

PHOENIX — On this week’s AZ Political Podcast, Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer talks with me about the almost 220,000 registered Arizona voters affected by a Motor Vehicle Division coding error — an error that has created questions about whether those residents are U.S. citizens and thereby eligible to vote in state and local elections in Arizona.

We discuss the Arizona Supreme Court ruling that allows these residents to vote anyway, his reaction when someone in his office discovered the registration glitch, who is responsible for the foul-up, and how he thinks it will affect (the seemingly inevitable) challenges to the results of the upcoming Nov. 5 election.

We also chat about his future in Arizona politics and whether he will ever seek public office again.

Richer will be leaving office in January after losing the Republican primary to former state legislator Justin Heap.
