AZ Political Podcast: Consultant Stacy Pearson on what’s happening with Democratic Party

This week’s AZ Political Podcast is dominated by a diet of Democrats, served with a little side dish of divorce.

Democratic political consultant Stacy Pearson, the co-founder of Lumen Strategies, joins me to talk about this week’s 7th Congressional District special primary election, held to replace the late Democratic U.S. Rep Raúl Grijalva. And we discuss his daughter Adelita’s win in the Democratic primary.

We know that her primary win in that heavily Democratic district likely foretells that she’ll take that seat in Congress (by easily defeating Daniel Butierez, the Republican primary winner), but I ask Stacy if Grijalva’s win foretells anything about the future of the Arizona Democratic Party.

Stacy and I also discuss what in the actual heck is going on, internally, at that same Arizona Democratic Party?!? Robert Branscomb was just relieved of his state party chairman duties — essentially for believing that he could take on Arizona’s two Democratic U.S. senators. That led to a belief among the state’s top-elected Democrats that they needed to rely on entities other than the state party in order to get reelected.

But Branscomb’s parting ways with the Dems isn’t the divorce I was referring to earlier.

Even though it’s not technically politics, the AZ Political Podcast delves into the Obama divorce rumors! Actually, we discuss Barack and Michelle spending some time together this week, trying to gently put to bed the rumors of their divorce.

I’m pulling for them — but mostly I’m pulling for me by hoping that far fewer conspiracy-fueled social media posts insisting that Michelle Obama is a man pop up in my feed.

Or at least that fewer of them include close-ups of her nether regions.
