I’ve been around Arizona politics for a long time (some might call it “lurking”), so I know a lot of the people who appear on the AZ Political Podcast. However, I met this week’s guest for the first time when I walked into the studio. I came away with two impressions: She has a big brain; and, because of her accompanying big personality, I felt like I’d known her for years.
But really, getting to know Gina Swoboda — the chair of the Arizona Republican Party and a 2026 candidate in Arizona’s 1st Congressional District — is half the fun. She started out wanting to be a music producer and ended up being a policy wonk with a wicked sense of humor.
We learn Swoboda’s thoughts on a range of topics: bringing fiscal conservatism back to Congress (something CD1’s current rep, David Schweikert, holds near and dear); what she plans to do to any primary opponents who may present themselves (it’s not pretty); and where she does (and does not) see eye to eye with “The Boss” (her nickname for Trump – not Springsteen).
I hope you choose to get to know Gina (I feel like I can call her that now) by watching the AZ Political Podcast — and I hope you choose a less hurtful word than “lurking” to describe what I do in Arizona and on the podcast.

Hey Gina, who pays the import taxes when a President unconstitutionally implements draconian tariffs after lying about a nonexistent “national emergency?”
Hey Gina, do you have a duty to inform law enforcement if you’re aware of child predators offering sexual assault to rich men in return for money and favors? Are you complicit in a felony if you remain silent for a decade?
Yes, truly consigned to antiquity. Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of years from now (if the Earth is still livable), archaeologists and historians will wonder was was going on and will be left to only speculate, much like we speculate today about ancient societies, North Americans and their obscure politics, such as "Republican" will be a puzzle.
"Republican" has become an historical term.
