Opinion: Megyn Kelly interviewing Alex Jones is must-miss TV of year

If you’re not sure who Alex Jones is, I’m sorry to be the one to fill you in on his existence.

He has built a career on lies, conspiracy theories and exploiting the deaths of thousands of Americans.

Through his radio show and website, InfoWars.com, he continues to insist that the U.S. government was behind 9/11 and the murder of little kids at Sandy Hook never happened.

There are many, many other awful things where that came from — usually Alex Jones’ pie hole.

And because of that, advertisers, such as J.P. Morgan Chase are pulling their ads from Megyn Kelly’s upcoming interview with Jones scheduled to air Sunday on her new NBC show.

In her defense, Kelly said a lot of people don’t know who Jones is and it’s her job “to shine a light.”

She has a point. When you consider that Donald Trump, the president of the United States, has actually praised some of Jones’ work and has said he’d like to give him White House press credentials, I suppose the right thing to do is to put Jones in the hot seat.

I have another defense for Kelly: She just finished interviewing Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, who is known for telling all sorts of lies and suspected of having many of his opponents killed.

Doesn’t that make him a worse guy than Jones? Should advertisers have pulled their ads from NBC over that interview?

I don’t know, but I do appreciate that Kelly is taking chances and speaking truth to power. She didn’t back down after Trump attacked her for pointing out the truth about what he had to say about women and she spoke up about her sexual harassment at Fox News.

But the difference between the Joneses of the world and the Trumps and Putins is that the former doesn’t command an army and his decisions won’t affect millions of people.

He just tells lies and smears the memory of innocent, murdered children.

I understand  Kelly’s decision — and respect her right — to interview Jones, but I will exercise my right to NOT watch more garbage fall out of Jones’ mouth.

I’ll probably watch “Fear the Walking Dead” instead, which depicts our world about as accurately as Jones has.
