CBP officers find 26 bags of meth in hidden compartment of truck at Arizona-Mexico border

PHOENIX — Authorities seized 159 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside a pickup trick at the Arizona-Mexico border on Tuesday.

The seizure took place at the Naco Port of Entry, which is around 60 miles east of the Nogales Port of Entry.

The drugs were found in a pickup truck being driven by a 46-year-old Mexican citizen trying to enter the U.S., according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

When was meth smuggling attempt foiled?

A CBP officer manning the vehicle lane the man was driving in referred his Chevrolet pickup truck to secondary inspection around 10:19 a.m.

In this second area, non-intrusive screening technology revealed anomalies within the Chevrolet pickup truck.

However, it was only through a canine inspection that authorities realized there were narcotics in the vehicle.

How CBP found 26 packages of methamphetamine hidden in truck

A physical search uncovered a hidden compartment, which contained 26 packages of methamphetamine, in the truck’s rear bed.

The seized drugs had a street value of $167,067, CBP said.

The driver was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.
