Ready or not, it’s that time of the year again when stores set up giant Christmas displays, front yards get frosted in fake snow and Starbucks starts putting beverages in its highly-anticipated Christmasy red cups.

But wait — this year, there is an apparent lack of Christmas on the cups, and it’s making some holiday fans pretty angry.

In the past, Starbucks has decorated the cups with Christmas images, such as snowmen, poinsettias, snowflakes and ornaments.

This year the cups are a red ombre, with a lighter red color at the top of the cup, fading into a deeper red color on the bottom.

The Christmas-less design is prompting some patrons to give baristas the name “Merry Christmas” at the register.

Some have even threatened to boycott Starbucks because of it.

The backlash over the cups has created a backlash of its own, with people taking to Twitter to express their anger over the anger towards the coffee giant.

Earlier this year, Starbucks unintentionally created another beverage container ruckus when baristas gave customers cups that displayed the hand-written message “Race Together.”

That attempt to get people to talk about racial inequities mostly got people talking about how obnoxious the whole thing was. The cup idea was shelved.
