‘Sorry, Baby’ deserves to land on the 2025 best films list

“Sorry, Baby” is one of those first-time writer-director gems that should land on 2025’s best films lists.

This freshman effort by Eva Victor of “Billions,” who also stars in the film, details the aftermath of someone enduring following trauma.

Perfectly set and shot in the wintry isolation of a small New England college town, the film gradually reveals that all is not well with Agnes, a young literature professor.

She has been through something serious. Even as her career seems to accelerate, her personal life is one of aloneness. As that trauma is brilliantly but carefully depicted in a modest but achingly real way, so are her few but meaningful human connections.

Victor expertly draws the few significant relationships Agnes does sustain — a years-long friendship with her bestie (Naomi Ackie), a romantic entanglement, a competitive co-worker and, most refreshingly, the quintessential random stranger who can give you a truth you resist from those closest to you.

Filled with solitude, some humor and honesty, this is a must-see for serious movie watchers.
