Main Street Minute: Getting rid of a laptop? Give it to Phoenix nonprofit
A Valley nonprofit is collecting discarded laptops to give to families in need and veterans are welcome at a networking event in Phoenix.

• The Monroe Building in Phoenix is the site of a monthlong laptop drive for a local nonprofit. Laptops can be dropped off through Jan. 13 in the lobby at the corner of First Avenue and Monroe Street. The computers will go to House of Refuge, which serves homeless families.
• Goodwill and Boeing are teaming up for a veterans networking event and job fair Wednesday. Business executives will share insights, advice and guidance on transitioning from military to the private sector and hold on-the-spot interviews. The event runs from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the thrift store’s corporate center near 23rd and Peoria avenues.
• Safeway is celebrating the grand opening of a store in Anthem on Wednesday. As part of the festivities, the grocery chain’s foundation will award more than $65,000 in grants to nearby schools and nonprofits. The new store is at the corner of Anthem Way and Gavilan Peak Parkway.
