Coronavirus cases jump to 3 in Pima County

PHOENIX — A third presumptive positive case of coronavirus in Pima County was announced on Sunday.

Today PCHD is announcing a 3rd presumptive positive case of COVID-19 in Pima County. The individual is an older adult currently recovering in an area hospital.

There are nine combined in Pinal (five) and Maricopa (four) counties.

The Arizona Department of Health Services website shows the same total number of patients in Arizona and Pima County since their update on Saturday.

The Pima Unified School District is asking for Pima Elementary students in 5th and 6th grades to voluntarily remain home until March 25, unless they are seeking medical care.

Sunday’s presumptive positive result was the first positive from commercial testing, according to the Pima County Health Department.

Information was not made available on whether or not this case was contracted through known sources.

According to the Pima County Health Department Facebook, an investigation has begun to identify the patient’s contacts to prevent the spread of the illness.
