How financial health plays a role in the length of a savings plan
Having a financial plan in order plays a critical role in how long a person's savings plan can last.
PHOENIX — Having a financial plan in order plays a critical role in how long a person’s savings plan can last. And it could potentially be passed from generation to generation.
Getting taxes, investments, cash flows and even estate planning can help a person’s financial plan last generations, turning financial health into financial wealth.
Financial advisor Stewart Willis explained on the Asset Preservation Hour that, as people prepare to start saving for retirement, saving as soon as you can plays a huge role in how long the plan will last.
Willis highlighted that two retirement ideologies have clashed with each other recently. He mentions BlackRock CEO Larry Fink saying GenX people are undersaving, while Tesla CEO Elon Musk suggests that advances in AI and robotics could make traditional savings less needed over time. Willis argues that Fink’s idea is a little more practical when it comes to financial planning. Saving and having a financial plan in place early can help you save money more quickly.
“I think people are undersaving,” Willis said. “I don’t think people are prepared. What I think (Musk is) underestimating and probably not considering is the great transition of wealth that we’re seeing. … The greatest generation is dying as we speak. They are now, we’re seeing the greatest wealth transfer in history.
“But if you’re not a beneficiary of that, if your parents don’t have money or your grandparents don’t have money to pass, it doesn’t really do you any good, right? So to me, this is as much a sprint as it is anything else, rather than a marathon. I think right now is the time to take your financial life seriously.”
