Steamboat Fire reaches 100% containment in Gila County

Fire crews fully contained the Steamboat Fire in Gila County, officials said Thursday.

The fire, burning 6 miles northeast of Kearny, was mapped at 1,576 acres, according to the Bureau of Land Management. Containment had increased from 48% to 90% by Tuesday before crews reached full containment Thursday.

Evacuation orders for Linx Ranch, Victory Cross Ranch, the Wind Spirit community and Dripping Springs were rescinded Monday evening.

The blaze was fueled by desert grass and brush.

On Tuesday, infrared-equipped aircrafts helped firefighters pinpoint and extinguish areas where residual heat was threatening containment. Crews also worked to fix areas affected by firefighting activity, such as restoring any disturbed natural features and repairing hand-built fire lines, roads and trails, through Wednesday.
