Destructive Jones Fire in Wickenburg 100% contained as all objectives are met

Crews gained full containment Friday of the Jones Fire, which forced evacuations and destroyed RVs in Wickenburg earlier this week.

Containment reached to 100% on Friday afternoon after being at 90% on Thursday evening, which was up from 66% that morning, fire officials said.

The footprint of the Jones Fire remained at 84 acres after forward progress was stopped Monday night.

The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management released all resources assigned to the blaze as of Friday, with the incident being turned over to the Wickenburg Fire Department. Officials noted that all objectives, such as repairing fences and dozer line rehabilitation, had been met.

No smoke was seen within the fire’s interior on Thursday.

Officials say Jones Fire was caused by human activity

About 25 people were displaced by the Jones Fire, which destroyed eight to 10 RVs after it ignited Monday afternoon.

Fire officials say the blaze was human-caused, but they have not determined exactly how it started.

The American Red Cross closed its evacuation shelter at Wickenburg High School but is still assisting residents displaced by the blaze. Impacted community members can call 800-RED-CROSS (733-2767) to open a case and receive services remotely or, if needed, in person.

All road closures related to the Jones Fire have been lifted.
