Dragon Bravo Fire climbs 2 spots on list of Arizona’s largest wildfires

PHOENIX – The Dragon Bravo Fire, which has been burning north of the Grand Canyon for a month, is now the eighth largest wildfire ever recorded in Arizona.

The destructive blaze has consumed over 123,000 acres on the North Rim with 13% containment, according to Monday morning’s incident report.

It entered the top 10 on the state list last week and grew by more than 6,000 acres Sunday to surpass the 2020 Bighorn Fire and 2004 Willow Fire.

The Dragon Bravo Fire, which was ignited by lightning on July 4, is about 700 acres from moving into the No. 7 spot, which is currently held by the 2019 Woodbury Fire. (UPDATE: The Dragon Bravo Fire did surpass the Woodbury Fire.)

The ongoing Grand Canyon blaze is Arizona’s largest wildfire since 2021, when the Telegraph Fire burned through over 180,000 acres south of Superior to reach No. 6 on the list.

The largest wildfire in Arizona history is the Wallow Fire, which consumed nearly 540,000 acres in Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest near Alpine in 2011.
