Crews stop progress on 1,000-acre Coyote Fire in eastern Arizona

PHOENIX — Crews stopped the progress of a wildfire that broke out Sunday in eastern Arizona, officials said.

The Coyote Fire burned through about 1,000 acres in Apache County before firefighters got lines in place to stop it from spreading, according to the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management.

The wildfire started a few miles northeast of Springerville around 3 p.m.

Windy conditions caused the flames to spread quickly.

Fire crews used engines and a large tanker to battle the blaze.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Crews also battled the Bryce Fire in southeastern Arizona over the weekend.
