Phoenix forecast calls for warm weather, with possible records, into next week

PHOENIX – The Valley’s run of unseasonably warm weather is expected to continue into next week, but the Christmas forecast remains a bit fuzzy.

Phoenix has been basking in the glow of clear skies and highs in the 70s and 80s since Dec. 7, a period when temperatures usually peak in the mid-60s.

In fact, the city broke daily records for high temperatures on Sunday and Monday. More records could fall before the warm spell ends.

“As of right now, it looks like maybe Sunday of the upcoming weekend could be a chance, as we are forecasting a high of 80 degrees, where the current record is 79, but can’t even rule out a few records being broken after that,” Ryan Worley of the National Weather Service told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Wednesday.

However, Worley said there’s a chance the weather pattern could change closer to Christmas next Thursday, although it’s too far out to know for sure.

“Can’t completely rule out maybe some cooler temperatures and maybe even some showers around here, but we still are a week away from that and uncertainty is fairly high associated with that pattern shift,” he said.
