Valley soaked with rain overnight, many areas hit with upward of 0.5 inches

PHOENIX — After a brief break in the action on Friday, rain once again began falling over the Valley on Saturday afternoon and left many areas soaked with more than half an inch of precipitation into Sunday morning.

According to Maricopa County’s Flood Control District, 26 of its measurable areas for precipitation received more than one inch over a 24-hour period from 5 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday.

Nearly all of the wettest recorded places were in Scottsdale and north Phoenix, including Pinnacle Peak and Horseshoe Ranch. East Valley cities such as Mesa and Gilbert saw as much as 0.79 inches of rain during the timeframe.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the National Weather Service in Phoenix uses for official measurements, received 0.41 inches on Saturday before only getting 0.01 additional precipitation in the same 24-hour period as above. The city didn’t receive any more rain as of 8:55 a.m.

For context, the Valley saw 0.37 inches of rain from Monday through Thursday.

Is there any more rain in Valley forecast entering Thanksgiving week?

NWS projects a 20% chance of rain from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, but calm winds in the evening will usher in a dryer holiday week.

Following a weekend of lower high temperatures than is usual for late November — 66 degrees expected Sunday would be seven degrees below the norm of 73 for Nov. 23, according to NWS — days are expected to warm up approaching Thanksgiving.

High temperatures will begin at 68 degrees on Monday in Phoenix before progressively increasing to 71 on Tuesday and 74 on Wednesday and Thanksgiving Thursday, with mostly clear skies to accompany turkey dinners.
