Light showers spritz parts of the Phoenix area, but don’t expect much more

PHOENIX – Did you get rained on Tuesday? If so, consider yourself lucky.

Light showers dotted parts of the Phoenix area late Tuesday morning, but they didn’t leave much of a mark.

“Most people will see nothing whatsoever out of this. And any rain that does fall will be quite minimal, barely enough to wet the roads,” Mark O’Malley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Phoenix, told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

O’Malley said there is a possibility of more light showers developing in the Valley in the evening and overnight, but don’t get your hopes up.

“Again, most people won’t see anything at all. It’s going to be very hit and miss, very isolated,” he said.

As of noon Tuesday, the Maricopa County rainfall map showed measurable precipitation for the day only at one gauge near Interstate 10 in the Buckeye area.

“If you encounter rain on the roadways, just slow down,” O’Malley said.

How much rain did Phoenix get in March?

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the NWS uses for the city’s official readings, has seen measurable precipitation twice in March for a total of just 0.06 inches. The normal amount of rainfall for the month is 0.83 inches.

Once the disturbance passes, the Valley can look forward to pleasant spring weather on Wednesday, with temperatures finally remaining under 90 degrees after a relentless March heat wave.

“The clouds will clear out tomorrow morning, and we’re looking at a very nice day tomorrow with temperatures in the middle 80s,” O’Malley said.
