Phoenix expected to dry out, stay sunny throughout 4th of July weekend after monsoon activity

PHOENIX — Streets across the Valley are mostly dry after Wednesday night’s monsoon season — and they’re likely to stay that way for the rest of the week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

“It’s more likely than not that the Phoenix metro will stay dry for today and through the weekend,” NWS meteorologist Ryan Worley told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Thursday morning.

The first monsoon of the season, which kicked off June 15, drenched parts of the Valley anywhere from a couple hundredths of an inch to almost a full inch of rain.

“We are going to be seeing a bit of a warmup as we head into the weekend as well,” Worley said.

NWS forecasts temperatures will push 110 degrees in Phoenix by Sunday. However, there is a slight chance of scattered showers in eastern Arizona.

“From what we saw, this is a good first push of moisture … for our monsoon season,” Worley said.

Much drier air is settling in over the region, limiting the chances of further shower and thunderstorm activity. The monsoon season will last through Sept. 30.
