PHOENIX – The latest metro Phoenix forecast includes significantly cooler temperatures and the possibility of rain.

“We have a big change in the weather pattern in store for this weekend,” Matt Salerno, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Friday morning.

Temperatures are expected to top out in the 90s on Friday and Saturday, which is about normal for this time of year, before what Salerno called “a pretty drastic drop.”

“By Sunday, we’re going to have a strong area of low pressure that’s going to move into the desert Southwest, and that’s going to bring us about a 10- to 15-degree drop in temperatures,” he said.

The Sunday forecast calls for highs in the middle to upper 70s across most of the Valley, with gusty winds and the possibility of rain, Salerno said.

“We’re calling for around a 20% chance here in the Phoenix metro for Sunday afternoon and evening. And there actually could be some isolated thunderstorms, as well,” he said. “So, yes, definitely some weather to look forward to here.”

Highs are expected to remain below normal until the middle of next week, but you should enjoy the cooldown while you can.

“By next weekend, it looks like temperatures are going to start to climb again back to above normal, so maybe the middle to upper 90s by next Friday,” Salerno said.
