Phoenix breaks 15-year-old heat record as extreme heat warning extends through Saturday
The city topped a daily high last set in 2011 as forecasters warn temperatures could reach 115 midweek before easing over the weekend.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport hit 114 degrees Tuesday, setting a new daily high temperature record for Aug. 25, according to preliminary National Weather Service data.
The reading, recorded at 1:58 p.m., broke the previous record for the date of 113 degrees set in 2011.
The record comes amid a stretch of extreme heat across metro Phoenix. Temperatures have reached or exceeded 110 degrees for multiple consecutive days, and the National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning through the end of the week.
Maricopa County has confirmed 113 heat-related deaths so far in 2026, with another 584 under investigation, putting the total caseload at 697, already surpassing the record 645 heat deaths counted for all of 2023.
