Remember sunscreen during warm, sunny Memorial Day weekend in Phoenix

Don’t forget the sunscreen if you spend time outside during what’s expected to be a warm and sunny Memorial Day weekend in metro Phoenix.

“We’ll be looking at gradually warming temperatures through at least Sunday. So, we’ll see temperatures probably peaking in the upper 90s across the lower deserts,” meteorologist Ted Whittock of the National Weather Service in Phoenix told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

Whittock said the forecast highs are fairly normal for this time of year – and plenty hot enough to be potentially dangerous.

“That still does translate to some level of heat risk. So, make sure that you’re taking proper precautions if you’re spending time outdoors, wearing sunscreen and staying properly hydrated,” he said.

Could there be rain during Memorial Day weekend?

While Valley skies will be sunny, areas to the east could see storm activity over Memorial Day weekend.

“We will see the gradual increase in moisture as a low-pressure system moves over the state. And so we could see an increase in clouds and maybe even some isolated thunderstorms over the eastern half of the state, mostly over the high terrain and the mountains,” Whittock said.
