Light rain, thunder possible as storm system moves through Valley

The National Weather Service for Phoenix warned that some residents may see light rain and hear rumbles of thunder as storm systems made their way through the Valley on Wednesday night.

The NWS said virga, which is rain that evaporates before reaching the ground, and light showers first entered the Phoenix metro area around 4:25 p.m.

It also warned that the rain drops could be accompanied by some thunder.

The weather authority’s radar showed some systems still making their through the northwest part of the Valley around 6 p.m. They were trailed by more activity that was over Interstate 8 southwest of the Phoenix metro.

Neither the Maricopa County Interactive Rainfall Data Map nor Phoenix Sky Harbor, which NWS uses for its official readings, showed any measurable rain.
