Driver safely escapes after truck gets swept away in north Valley floodwaters

A driver safely escaped after his truck was swept away by floodwaters in a north Valley wash during Tuesday morning’s storms, authorities said.

Deputies responded to the scene near 14th Street and Carefree Highway in New River and learned that the driver did not need any assistance, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

MCSO initially reported that two vehicles were swept away and one was missing. The report turned out to be inaccurate.

The scene has been cleared.

Widespread thunderstorms created hazardous driving conditions across the Valley on Tuesday morning. Most of the state is under a flood watch through 9 p.m.
