Flash flood warning issued across Phoenix, Southwest Arizona

PHOENIX — A flash flood warning was issued for Phoenix and portions of southwestern Arizona for Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.

The warning will go into effect at 2 p.m. through 11 a.m. Wednesday for central and parts of southwest Arizona, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said the monsoon weather making its way to the Valley this week could bring as much as a quarter-inch of rain on Tuesday, with the chances of more storms continuing Wednesday at 60%.

There will possibly be high lightning activity and flash flooding on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In an effort to keep homes dry, the Town of Queen Creek announced Tuesday morning sand bags, which provide up to two feet of small water flow protection, will be available for pickup at Fire Station 2 at 24787 S. Sossaman road.

The NWS Phoenix office warns drivers to never drive through a flooded roadway.
