Westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway at 44th Street reopens after 7-vehicle crash

PHOENIX — The westbound lanes of the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway reopened at 44th Street after a crash on Sunday morning, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The affected lanes closed around 6 a.m. and reopened just after 11 a.m.

According to the Department of Public Safety, there was a seven-vehicle crash with one fatality. DPS said impairment is believed to be a factor.

After initially saying the crash was a “wrong-way collision,” DPS later clarified to say it was not a “wrong-way collision.”

The eastbound lanes were not affected by the crash.
