PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation’s Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for Aug. 1-4 is short — but it might not be sweet for Scottsdale motorists.

The only weekend closure on the list is due to the Loop 101 Pima Freeway improvement project in Scottsdale.

Southbound Loop 101 will be closed from Princess Drive/Pima Road to Shea Boulevard from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for bridge work. (Times are subject to change.)

The ramps from Scottsdale and Hayden roads to eastbound/southbound Loop 101 will be closed at the same time.

Motorists should seek alternate routes and expect delays.

One possible detour for Loop 101 traffic is to take State Route 51 south to the eastbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway.

Drivers could also take Scottsdale Road south from the Loop 101 to bypass the construction zone.

Are there other weekend closures of note?

This is also the first weekend for a long-term freeway restriction in the East Valley.

The westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway off-ramp at Price Road in Chandler closed Thursday night as part of an ongoing freeway widening project. The ramp is expected to reopen in late September.
