Project to improve SR 347 south of Valley takes step forward with contractor
A project to improve State Route 347 south of the Valley took a step forward this week by selecting a contractor, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) announced Thursday.

PHOENIX — A project to improve State Route 347 south of the Valley took a step forward this week by selecting a contractor, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) announced Thursday.
Following an extensive review process, Sundt Construction was selected as the contractor for the SR 347 Improvement Project.
The project’s purpose is to revamp a 15-mile stretch of the highway between Interstate 10 and the city of Maricopa. The section of road runs through both Maricopa and Pinal counties, but for the most part is located within the Gila River Indian Community.
What does this mean for the SR 347 project?
According to ADOT, a pre-construction services contract will start being negotiated next week and is expected to be complete in February.
The traffic authority added that doing this will allow the contractor to provide input on the ongoing design for the planned improvements.
As part of the upgrades, one lane will be added in each direction of SR 347 between I-10 and the city of Maricopa.
The existing pavement along the 15-mile stretch will also be rehabilitated.
In addition, new grade-separated interchanges will be constructed at Riggs and Maricopa roads. Turn lanes will be added and other intersection improvements will be made at Casa Blanca and Maricopa roads as well.
The goal of the SR 347 Improvement Project is to alleviate congestion as well as improve safety and traffic flow along the busy highway.
Construction on the project is expected to begin this summer and be completed after approximately three years.
The project is expected to cost $396 million and funding for it came from the state of Arizona, the Maricopa Association of Governments, the city of Maricopa and Pinal County.

Adding a lane isn't going to releave the traffic. It's the traffic lights along the 347 that causes a back up.
Probably should have built the roads BEFORE building all the houses, and charged the builders for the cost, but better late than never.
