Mark your calendars, drivers: 3 Arizona highways set for annual seasonal closures

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation is scheduling closures of several high-country highways.

The first of the closures will impact drivers in southern Arizona. Starting Saturday, State Route 366, also known as Swift Trail, will be closed beginning at the end of the pavement, one-half mile past the Coronado National Forest’s Shannon Campground.

Next Thursday, a second closure will go into place. This one will impact drivers in eastern Arizona: State Route 473 between State Route 260 and Hawley Lake in the White Mountains will close for the winter on Nov. 20.

Additionally, State Route 67 from Jacob Lake to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon will close for the winter on Monday, Dec. 1. It usually reopens in mid-May. US 89A will stay open at the junction with SR 67.

Even more closures will take place in late December. These eastern Arizona highways will shut down on Dec. 31:

• State Route 261 between Eagar and Big Lake
• State Route 273 between Sunrise Park and Big Lake
