Transportation officials are warning Phoenix-area drivers to plan ahead for freeway road repairs and traffic restrictions over Mother’s Day weekend.
Closure or lane restrictions are scheduled on State Route 51 and Interstate 17 in Phoenix and the Loop 101 Pima Freeway in Scottsdale, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for May 8-11.
Road repair work continues on SR 51 in Phoenix
Northbound SR 51 will be closed in Phoenix between Northern Avenue and Cactus Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for surface asphalt removal. On ramps at Colter Street, Bethany Home Road and Glendale Avenue will be closed during the construction.
Northbound Interstate 17 is the recommended alternative freeway route or northbound Seventh Street to northbound Cave Creek Road, then eastbound Cactus or Greenway roads to reenter the freeway if surface streets are preferred.
Southbound I-17 closure planned in north Phoenix
Southbound I-17 reopened Saturday morning after a closure between Loop 101 and Thunderbird Road in north Phoenix began 9 p.m. Friday for overhead sign replacement.
It was originally expected to be closed until 5 a.m. Sunday.
The construction closed the southbound I-17 on-ramps at Deer Valley Road and Rose Garden Lane.
Not to be dramatic, but there are 2 closures this weekend in metro Phoenix:
🚧 SR 51 NB will be closed between Northern Ave and Cactus Rd for pavement work.
🚧 I-17 SB will be closed between Loop 101 and Thunderbird Rd for sign replacement.

The Durango curve portion of I-17 will be narrowed to one lane between 19th Avenue and Washington Street from 9 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday for freeway maintenance.
Drivers can use westbound Interstate 10 in the downtown Phoenix area as an alternative route.
Loop 101 narrowed in north Scottsdale
Meanwhile, the Loop 101 Pima Freeway will be narrowed to two lanes in both directions between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for pavement improvements.
The northbound lane restrictions are scheduled to start by 5 a.m. Saturday.
