Heads up, drivers: Plenty of construction scheduled across Valley this weekend

Plenty of road construction is scheduled across metro Phoenix this weekend, resulting in numerous detours and restrictions.

PHOENIX — Plenty of road construction is scheduled across metro Phoenix this weekend, resulting in numerous detours and restrictions.

The slate includes full closures on stretches of Interstate 10, State Route 143 and US 60, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for March 21-24. (All times below are subject to change.)

Six miles of I-10 will shut down in the West Valley on a staggered basis.

First, the westbound freeway will be closed between 35th and 83rd avenues from 9 p.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday for pavement sealing.

Then, eastbound I-10 will be closed over the same stretch from from 9 p.m. Saturday to 2 p.m. Sunday.

ADOT suggests using McDowell Road as a detour.

What to know about SR 143 and US 60 closures

Further east, drivers will have to deal with construction on northbound SR 143 (Hohokam Expressway) near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The highway will be closed from I-10 to the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for a traffic shift related to the Broadway Curve Improvement Project.

Motorists heading to Sky Harbor on westbound I-10 will have to continue to 24th Street or Buckeye Road to reach the west entrance. Westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway traffic will be able to access the airport via the the Sky Harbor Boulevard entrance on the east side.

Meanwhile, US 60 (Superstition Freeway) will be off-limits to traffic heading from the East Valley toward Phoenix while crews work on a traffic shift. Westbound US 60 will be closed through Tempe from the Loop 101 Price Freeway to I-10 from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday.

Drivers can use the westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway in Mesa or Loop 202 Santan Freeway in Chandler as detours.

Where else is road construction scheduled this weekend?

Furthermore, roadwork could delay traffic in the following areas:

  • Westbound I-10 from US 60 in Tempe to 32nd Street in Phoenix will limited to three lanes from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday.
  • Eastbound US 60 will be down to three lanes from I-10 to Mill Avenue in Tempe from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Saturday.
  • All I-10 ramps at 40th Street in Phoenix will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday.
  • The right two lanes of the eastbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway will be closed from Cooper Road to Gilbert Road in the East Valley from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
