Phoenix begins 30-day warning period for drivers caught by speed-monitoring cameras

PHOENIX — Drivers caught on camera violating speed limits at 17 Phoenix locations will receive warnings for the next 30 days as part of a photo safety program starting on Monday.

Citations for violating the posted speed limit will be issued starting on March 25, according to the city.

There are nine camera locations in standard areas, most of which are in the northern parts of the city, placed strategically in areas with high numbers of crashes where speed was a factor.

The following locations were chosen as the initial standard locations (and are subject to change):

• Thunderbird Road between 35th Avenue and Interstate 17
• 32nd Street between Greenway Parkway and Bell Road
• Thunderbird Road between I-17 and 19th Avenue
• Seventh Street between Thomas and Indian School roads
• Indian School Road between 83rd and 75th avenues
• Camelback Road between 24th and 32nd streets
• 51st Avenue between Van Buren Street and Interstate 10
• Baseline Road between 16th and 24th streets
• Bell Road between I-17 and 19th Avenue

The cameras will be situated in the middle of their respective block and can be moved to other locations every six months.

Eight other cameras will be placed in 15 mph school zones and will rotate weekly.
