A motorcycle crashed into a safety barrier on Interstate 10 inside the Deck Park Tunnel around 4:30 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. The rider was taken to a hospital with life-threating injuries.

The investigation and cleanup temporarily blocked the left lanes of eastbound I-10, creating significant delays.

The scene was cleared before 7 a.m., but traffic remained heavy.

At the peak of the delay, eastbound I-10 was backed up to the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway. The transition from southbound I-17 to eastbound I-10 was also impacted.
