Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway in Mesa reopens after vehicle spins out, hits wall

PHOENIX – The westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway reopened in Mesa on Wednesday morning after a crash was cleared, authorities said.

The crash involved a single vehicle that spun out and hit a wall near the McDowell Road/Gilbert Road exit, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. The driver sustained critical injuries.

Traffic was forced to take the off-ramp ahead of the crash site while the scene was under investigation.

Loop 202 fully reopened by 9:45 a.m., about 25 minutes after the Arizona Department of Transportation announced that the westbound lanes were closed.
