PHOENIX — Drivers in Scottsdale should expect temporary nighttime and weekend slowdowns on Loop 101 Pima Freeway this week as crews work to smooth the pavement.
Southbound Loop 101 will be reduced to two lanes overnight between Princess Drive/Pima Road and Thunderbird Road from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
The restrictions will expand over the weekend. The freeway will again be narrowed to two lanes between Princess Drive/Pima Road and Shea Boulevard from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.
What’s causing traffic restrictions on Loop 101 in Scottsdale?
According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, the closures are part of a project to upgrade a 5‑mile segment of the Pima Freeway between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive/Pima Road.
Crews are diamond‑grinding the pavement as a follow‑up to an earlier improvement project that added a lane in each direction.
Officials expect the $4 million project to be complete by late summer.

The 101 definitely has some rough spots right after you get on southbound from Pima Road
Let's hope this includes the former original texture that deadens the loud traffic noise - it must have worn down because the noise from the 101 is so loud it reverberates to the houses blocks away
"Pavement Smoothing" ? Marketed as a way to "Improve Road Quality",... touted by Municipal Budget Crunchers as a way to write more tickets as people can no longer gauge their speed due to a lack of road noise and texture.
