Woman killed, others injured in series of crashes on eastbound I-10 near Picacho Peak

A woman was killed and multiple people were injured in a series of three crashes that shut down eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near Picacho Peak on Thursday evening, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

The first crash happened around 4:30 p.m. and may have been weather-related, according to DPS. The three-car crash had injuries, although the extent was not immediately released.

While traffic was stopped for that crash, a second accident happened in the backed up traffic between a box truck and a sedan. No one was injured in that crash.

In a third crash, a shuttle bus struck a sedan. The female driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. Three passengers on the shuttle bus had non-life-threatening injuries.

The Arizona Department of Transportation closed all eastbound lanes for several hours, forcing traffic to exit at or before Picacho Peak Road.

The identity of the woman killed had not been released.
