1 dead after multivehicle crash on north Phoenix freeway

A person was killed in a multivehicle collision on Interstate 17 in north Phoenix on Friday morning.

PHOENIX – A person was killed in a multivehicle collision on Interstate 17 in north Phoenix on Friday morning, authorities said.

The pileup occurred on the northbound side of I-17 near Anthem just before 9 a.m. and backed up traffic for hours, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Four vehicles, including a truck pulling a trailer, were involved in the crash near Daisy Mountain Road.

One person was taken to a hospital in serious condition and was pronounced dead upon arrival, DPS said.

Northbound I-17 was closed until around 11:30 a.m. while the crash scene was under investigation.
