Eastbound I-10 reopens in West Valley after pedestrian fatality

Traffic had to exit the freeway at Avondale Avenue for several hours after a man was struck by multiple vehicles.

Eastbound Interstate 10 was closed in the West Valley for several hours after a pedestrian was struck and killed early Friday morning, authorities said.

A man was apparently hit by multiple vehicles near Avondale Avenue about 1:30 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

DPS didn’t say why the man on the freeway.

Eastbound traffic was forced to exit I-10 at Avondale Avenue for the investigation. The roadway reopened just before 6:30 a.m.

The westbound lanes were not impacted by the incident.
