Westbound I-10 reopens near Phoenix airport after late-night head-on collision

PHOENIX – Westbound Interstate 10 reopened Monday morning after a head-on collision near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport the previous night, authorities said.

Traffic was diverted from westbound I-10 to northbound I-17 overnight and into the early part of the morning commute, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The freeway reopened before 7 a.m.

I-10 WB at the Split: I-10 WB is closed at the Split interchange with I-17 due to a crash. There is no estimated reopening time.

The collision occurred near Buckeye Road just before 11:30 p.m. Sunday, when a Jeep traveling the wrong way struck another vehicle, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The driver of the Jeep suffered serious injuries and is suspected of impairment, DPS said.

The other driver suffered injuries that aren’t considered life-threatening.
