Fatal crash closes westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain ramp to northbound Loop 101 in Tempe

A holiday weekend crash which left one person dead forced the closure of a major freeway transition ramp near Tempe on Saturday afternoon, transportation officials said.

A holiday weekend crash, which was reported to be fatal, forced the closure of a major freeway transition ramp near Tempe on Saturday afternoon, transportation officials said.

The westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) ramp to northbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) closed around 1 p.m. due to the collision, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The collision involved a single vehicle and one person was found dead when fire personnel arrived at the scene.

There is currently no estimated time for the ramp to reopen, and heavily delayed traffic is building up in the area.
