PHOENIX — If you plan on driving in the downtown Tempe area this weekend, watch out for street restrictions related to the Fantasy of Lights Boat Parade.
The holiday event runs from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Tempe Beach Park and features live music, entertainment, a holiday market, photos with Santa, food vendors and beer and wine gardens.
The boat parade will kick off on Tempe Town Lake at 7 p.m. and a firework finale will begin at 8:15 p.m.
For those who plan on driving to the event, there will be paid parking available. It was advised to allow for extra travel time due to the road closures.
It was also recommend that attendees consider using the Tempe Streetcar or riding a bike to get to the Fantasy of Lights Boat Parade.
Where are the Fantasy of Lights Boat Parade detours
The following streets are scheduled to be closed from 4 p.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday:
- Eastbound Rio Salado Parkway between Hardy Drive and Mill Avenue.
- Westbound Rio Salado Parkway between Mill Avenue and Lakeside Drive.
- Southbound Mill Avenue between Curry Road and Rio Salado Parkway.
- Northbound Ash Avenue at Third Street.
- Eastbound First Street at Rio Salado Parkway.
The Fantasy of Lights Boat Parade will also restrict streetcar and bus routes in the area. A full list of the street closures and transit impact is available on the city of Tempe website.
