3 dead in Interstate 10 crash in Buckeye

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near Buckeye were closed on Thursday night due to a crash. Westbound lanes were not affected.

BUCKEYE — At least three people are dead and two others injured after a deadly rollover crash closed down a section of Interstate 10 in Buckeye Thursday night.

Two boys, a 6-year-old and a 9-year-old, and their 48-year-old grandfather were killed, officials told ABC15.

Emergency crews, including those from the Buckeye Fire Department (BFD) and the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS), responded to the crash around 9:32 p.m., near the I-10 and South Palo Verde Road near mile marker 111.

Buckeye fire officials said five people from the single vehicle were injured, including an adult male, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Four others were recovered in critical condition, including two young children, ages 5 and 6 years old, an older boy and an adult woman. Those four were taken to West Valley Trauma Center and Phoenix Children’s for treatment.

Later Thursday evening, AZDPS confirmed that three people had died from that crash.

A separate eastbound crash also closed the freeway about eight miles west on I-10, near 339th Avenue in Tonopah. It has since reopened.
