3-car collision on State Route 51 near Greenway Road leaves DPS trooper injured

A crash involving three vehicles on State Route 51 near Greenway Road on Friday injured a trooper with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).

PHOENIX — A crash involving three vehicles on State Route 51 near Greenway Road on Friday injured a trooper with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), officials said.

An unidentified driver collided with a DPS patrol vehicle after initially striking a tow truck, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).

The collision was first reported around 2 p.m. and blocked the furthest right lane on the northbound highway. It left a DPS trooper sustained “non-life-threatening injuries,” ADOT said.

ADOT said the driver at fault is “suspected of impairment.”

No update was provided for when the right lane will be cleared.
